China Hotel Association (Oct 9, 2026): 72.7% of surveyed lodging businesses saw occupancy grow or hold (average +8.2%), while average room rates fell by an average of 8.7%. The association notes more rational consumers, fiercer competition and widening divergence in profitability.

Editorial comment
The gap between occupancy and rate suggests demand is there, but pricing power has shifted toward guests and channels. The useful debrief question is not just "were we full?", but which rate cuts were necessary and which were simply matching competitors.

Discussion
How did your holiday ADR compare with last year? Did rates fall in the second half?
What rules decide when you cut versus hold rate?

A quantified follow-up: with the association's averages of occupancy +8.2% and ADR −8.7%, RevPAR comes out roughly flat to slightly down (1.082 × 0.913 ≈ 0.988). On average, the extra rooms sold brought no extra room revenue while adding linen, energy and labour cost.

So: was your own holiday RevPAR up or down year on year — and what happened at GOP level?
